WSR School Supply Drive - Manuel Sablan

WSR School Supply Drive For our Make-A-Difference project, my group and I decided to fund-raise to donate and give back to the WSR Elementary school. What our group observed while we were in elementary school was the need for school supplies. Almost everyday, some students would ask to borrow necessary school supplies such as pencils, sharpeners or even erasers. With that in mind, we took the initiative to buy students those school supplies. Our group fund-raised enough to buy 61 sets of pencil cases, erasers, pencils, and sharpeners. I believe that we made a difference in the lives of their first graders because they wouldn't have to depend on others to supply them with the tools they need. If I were to do this again during the summer, I would capitalize on any forms of fundraising because gathering money was one of our major issues. What I would do the same is remain in contact with our mentor because she played a key role in achieving our goal. To continue helping those first ...

Blog #8 Over the past week, my team was able to raise 125 dollars in one week. With this money, my group and I went to buy the materials for our audience today. We were able to get 54 pencil cases, 81, sharpeners, 81 erasers, and 200 pencils. We plan to put at least 3 to four pencils in each case, as well as 1 sharpener and 1 eraser. The excess materials will be directly donated to the teacher for their students to use during the school year. Nothing has gone wrong this week. The only challenge we faced was getting Edwin to raise funds due to his absence during his trip to California. Through this process, we learned that if you stay focused and work towards your goal, you will be successful. Over the past week, our communication skills have improved. We are on on-track delivery. My next action is packing the school materials and donating them to WSR.

Blog #7 This week, I began issuing pledge forms to my group mates. As an alternative to the hot lunch, we think that seeking pledges toward our cause would be a faster way of accumulating the money we need. The only difficulty we've had this week was seeking the pledges. Persuading other students to donate to our cause was a difficult task because we do not seem credible. The only students who were willing to donate were those who were struggling to complete their Make a Difference project as well. Through this process, my group and I has learned that if you seek donations, a persuasive approach and compelling background is the key to success. Currently, we are on on -track delivery because we scheduled to order our products for donation at a certain date. Whatever amount that we have at that date is the amount that we will be donating. My next actions is completing our pledge forms and ordering our materials.

Blog #7 This week, we've finally confirmed our menu for the hot lunch. My group and I will be finalizing the expenditure that's required for our hot lunch. In addition to creating the menu on our hot lunch, we contacted Ms. Marji Pangelinan, and we were informed that we can donate pencils and pencil cases instead. This week, nothing has gone wrong and we have not faced any challenges yet. Through the process of seeking another item for donation, we've learned that if we do not stay on task and execute all the plans that were made, our success is highly unlikely. Over the past week, our communication skills have become better. We have learned the proper email etiquette through the process of emailing Ms. Marji Pangelinan. Since we've changed our donation, we have to adjust our time line and set the date on when we will order the goods. If our hotlunch is successful, we will be on time for delivery. Our next action is meeting with Ms. Marji Pangelinan to schedule when a...

Blog #6 So far, our group has been doing two things this week. The first being the decision of what's going to be in our hot lunch, and the second being seeking an alternative donation to WSR. We were scheduled to meet Ms. Marji Pangelinan this past Tuesday, however, she was not there when we visited their office. A challenge we've faced so far was getting in contact with Ms. Marji Pangelinan, she doesn't answer her emails quickly. We've messaged her a few times, but she hasn't respond to any of them. Through this process, I've learned that its best to stay in touch with people who can help you in achieving your goal. Additionally, I've learned that being on top of things and being on task is the first step to success. Currently, we are not on track for an on-time delivery. An adjustment we need to make is scheduling another appointment with Ms. Marji. The next action of our group is seeking an alternative donation and following through with our hot lunch....

Blog #5 This week, we were able to schedule a date for a hot lunch and made major revisions to the time line on our proposal. We haven't scheduled any plans that could've gone wrong, so nothing has gone wrong this week. A challenge we've faced this week was actually coming up with a date for the hot lunch. Through this process, we've learned that making last minute plans is difficult and it's always to have a plan B. Over the past week, we've improved our teamwork and problem solving skills. At first, we were all frustrated that we weren't able to partake in the Cash for Trash program. But after cooperating and putting our heads together, we decided that a hot lunch would be the ideal option for our situation. Currently, the future does not look bright, therefore we are searching for an alternative donation. An adjustment that needs to be made to our timeline is the date of our hot lunch and a meeting we scheduled with Ms. Marji Pangelinan. Our next action...

Blog #4: Although people have began donating to the drive in Ms. Calvos Class, this was an unfortunate week. We were initially planned to preform a beach cleanup for the Cash for Trash program last Saturday, however we did not have the location. The lady at the Marianas Visitors Authority's front desk claimed that she emailed our location as well as the time prior to Saturday, however Bonnie claimed that he did not receive any email from her. The lady didn't believe him and said "I told you to make sure that you verify your email address" and Bonnie did. Contact through email is prone to fail and is not as reliable as she thinks it is. We've learned that's it is always good to be prepared to execute a plan B. Over the past week, one skill I learned was to be respectful even if the situation is unfair. Currently, we are not on track for on-time delivery. However, we need to finalize a date for our hot lunch because it is our last resort. My next action is to ...
